How To Register For ICAN – 2021 ICAN Registration and Requirements

To register for ICAN, and then Become An ICAN Member is a plus to anyone that desires to grow in the accounting field. The reality is that without the ICAN certificate, it will be difficult to make it to the top in an accounting career.

Hence, the need for this article, to show you, how to register for ICAN and the requirements you need to qualify for the application.

ICAN means the Institute of Chartered Accountants Of Nigeria. It is a professional accountancy body in Nigeria, established by an Act of Parliament in 1965 from existing accounting and auditing organizations including the Association of Accountants in Nigeria.

However, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of  Nigeria (ICAN) aims is to produce world-class chartered accountants, regulate and continuously enhance their ethical standards and technical competence in the public interest.

Nonetheless, many people believe that the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN)! is only for those that read accounting in the university or Polytechnic. This is untrue as anyone who desires to have an ICAN certificate can enroll. In as much as you have an O’level certificate with not less than 5 credits.

ICAN Registration Requirements

Below are the requirements for the registration of students to the ICAN.

Academic Requirements for ATSWA Students

  • Five (5) credit passes in any subject including English Language and Mathematics in the West Africa School Certificate Examination, General Certificate of Education or Senior School Certificate of Education, NECO equivalent not more than two sittings or NABTEB.
  • Ordinary National Diploma of any Polytechnic recognized by the Council of the Institute
  • National Certificate in Education (NCE) from any College of Education

Academic Requirements for Professional Students

  • A degree of any University
  • Higher National Diploma of any Polytechnic
  • Or any other qualification for the time being approved by the council

How To Register For ICAN

Now, let us look at how you can register for ICAN, basically, there are two basic ways you can register and Join as an ICAN accountant. Namely;

  • You can register for ICAN as a Professional student
  • Also, you can join ICAN as an ASTWA student

How To Register for ICAN As An ATSWA Student

ASTWA means Accounting Technicians Scheme West Africa,. Its aim is to train and produce middle-level accounting technicians. Also, to provide a recognized qualification for the accounting and auditing staff employed in the public sector, industry, commerce, and in various offices or practicing accountants

Moreso, to help meet the need for middle-level accounting personnel in the economy especially for the accounting and finance departments of various government agencies and corporations.

The program or training period for the 3 level examination is 15 months that is for people with an Ordinary level certificate while those with higher resultS (not a degree) will be 6 to 12 months.

The examination only takes place two times yearly (March and September) and after the examination, if you are successful, the AAT Certificate will be awarded to you.

To Register For ICAN As A ATSWA Students

  1. Use either Pay direct, Web-Pay, or Quickteller to pay an ATSWA registration fee of N6000, bank charges are not included.
  2. Generate your PIN and Serial Number HERE by using the transaction reference and receipt number.
  3. Next is to click submit after completing the form.
  4. Kindly print the successfully completed form and sign it.
  5. Endeavor to attach the following documents; Original copy of the pay direct receipt/transaction reference Certified photocopies of your credentials any (NECO, WASCE, NABTEB, OND, NCE)
  6. Your application form and credentials on completion must be signed and endorse by a Chartered Accountant or Associate Accounting Technicians (AAT).
  7. You can now submit the hardcopy copies to any of the ICAN offices.

To Registers for ICAN As A Professional Student

  • Use either Pay direct (Any commercial banks), Web-Pay or Quickteller to pay for the professional examination registration fee of N7000, bank charges are not included.
  • Use the transaction reference and receipt number to complete your form online on the website. A box will pop up.
  • Click to submit on completion of the form.
  • Kindly print the successfully completed form and sign it.
  • Endeavor to attach the following documents; Original copy of the pay direct receipt/transaction reference, Certified photocopies of your credentials and educational qualifications, and any of (NYSC discharged certificate, call-up letter, or students academic transcripts).
  • Also, the transcripts should be addressed to the Registrar/Chief Executive of the Institute
  • Your application form and credentials on completion must be signed and endorse by a Chartered Accountant.
