How To Register For ICAN And Get Certified – ICAN Registration Guide. You are about to learn how to register for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. It is important for graduates of accounting to register for ICAN. There are so many benefits that you will derive as a Chartered Accountant.

ICAN is a recognized professional body globally, so once you become a Chartered accountant, you can work anywhere in the world. You will also be placed on a good salary structure that qualifies for an ICAN certificate.

ICAN is an abbreviation for Institutes of Chartered Accounting of Nigeria, it is a professional accountancy body, established with the mission to produce world-class chartered accountants, regulate and continuously enhance their ethical standards and technical competence in the public interest.

However, to become a chartered accountant in Nigeria, you must register with ICAN, write, and pass the ICAN examination! Then get inducted by the professional accountancy body (ICAN). Below are professional accountancy bodies, that ICAN is affiliated with;

  • International Federation of Accountants (IFAC)
  • Pan African Federation Accountants (PAFA)
  • The Association of Accountancy Bodies in West Africa (ABWA)
  • Chartered Accountants Worldwide (CAW)
  • Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)
  • Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
  • The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA)

 ICAN Registration Requirements

To become a chartered accountant with ICAN, you either register as a professional student or an ATSWA student. However, in any of the above types of ICAN studentship, there are registration requirements you must have before you can join the accountancy body (ICAN).

ATSWA Student Registration Requirements

To register as an ATSWA student, you must have the below minimum requirements;

  1. Five (5) credit passes in any subject including English Language and Mathematics in the West Africa School Certificate Examination, General Certificate of Education or Senior School Certificate of Education, NECO equivalent not more than two sittings or NABTEB.
  2. Ordinary National Diploma of any Polytechnic recognized by the Council of the Institute.
  3. National Certificate in Education (NCE) from any College of Education.

Professional Student Requirements

The professional student entry requirements for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) registration are as follows;

  1. The degree of any University or Higher National Diploma of any Polytechnic accredited by the Council.
  2. Any other qualification for the time being approved by the Council.

How To Register For ICAN As ATSWA Student

The Accounting Technicians Scheme West Africa (ATSWA) program is designed to produce middle-level Accounting Technicians within the West African sub-region. The objectives are to:

  • Provide a recognized qualification for the accounting and auditing staff employed in the public sector, industry, commerce, and in various offices or practicing accountants.
  • Help meet the need for middle-level accounting personnel in the economy especially for the accounting and finance departments of various government agencies and corporations.

To register for ICAN as ATSWA students, kindly

  • Pay an ATSWA registration of ₦6000.00 either through Pay-Direct, Web-Pay, or Quick-Teller. Note that bank charges not included.
  • Use the transaction reference and receipt number to generate your PIN and SERIAL NUMBER here.
  • Click to submit on completion of the form.
  • Print out the completed form and sign it.
  • Attach the below documents and submit the hard copies to any of our offices; Original copy of the pay direct receipt/transaction reference. Certified photocopies of your credentials any (NECO, WASCE, NABTEB, OND, NCE).

Note; You will require a Chartered Accountant or Associate Accounting Technicians (AAT) to endorse your application form and credentials on completion.

How To Register For ICAN  As Professional Student

To register for ICAN as a professional student, kindly

  • Pay a professional examination registration fee of ₦7000 either through Pay-Direct, Web-Pay, or Quick-Teller. There are no bank charges attached to it.
  • Use the transaction reference and receipt number to complete your form online on our website. A box will pop up.
  • Click to submit on completion of the form.
  • Print out the completed form and sign it.
  • Attach the below documents and submit the hard copies to any of our offices. Original copy of the pay direct receipt/transaction reference. Certified photocopies of your credentials and educational qualifications and any of (NYSC discharged certificate, call-up letter or students academic transcripts). The transcripts should be addressed to the Registrar/Chief Executive of the Institute.

Note; You will require a Chartered Accountant to endorse your application form and credentials on completion.
